A Banner Year During Birdies for Kids!

Further Education Society of Alberta

Every year, Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink helps FESA and other Alberta non-profit youth focused organizations by amplifying their fundraising reach. Birdies for Kids matches every donation made up to 50%, provides alternative donation methods like Chip in for Kids, and helps promote the charities through social media, and the Shaw Charity Classic.

We are excited and overjoyed to announce that we raised $51,126.19 through Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink! That is the most we have ever raised during Birdies for Kids. Thank you to everyone who donated, and thank you Birdies for Kids for providing us with the fundraising opportunity! Your generosity gives children and families the opportunity to learn to read, to write, and to develop the parenting and essential skills they need for a successful future.

We want to give a special shout-out to Sweet Spot International, who made an organizational donation to the Further Education Society of Alberta (FESA). Sweet Spot International (SSI) is a small, close-knit team of specialists covering the fields of instructional design, scriptwriting, graphic design, and custom media creation (videography, photography, illustrations, and narration). They’ve been working closely with us to adapt our Indigenous Workplace Learning Circles (IWLC) program into eLearning modules for an online facilitator-led training.

We are so happy to reach this personal best, and it is through the hard work of the entire FESA staff, the Board Members, Shaw Birdies for Kids, and all our wonderful donors. Through everyone’s hard work, dedication, and care, FESA can continue to support literacy and learning in Calgary and provide free literacy materials and programs.

Land Acknowledgement

FESA acknowledges that the land upon which we work and call home is on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney), the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Districts 4, 5, and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We are grateful to work on the territory that situates Calgary, which is known as Mohkinstsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyâxe Nakoda, as we endeavor to build a more literate and learning society allowing all to reach their potential.
