Recognizing the Excellent Work of FESA's 2024 Practicum Students

In 2024, FESA welcomed four practicum students from Mount Royal University in Calgary. As part of our mission to strengthen communities, families, and individuals through literacy and learning by advocating, collaborating, and removing barriers, we regularly engage with students seeking experience in the non-profit sector.

This year, the practicum students explored various aspects of non-profit work. They received training in FESA’s program delivery, participated in day-to-day operations, contributed to communications and social media, and assisted in program facilitation.

Aza's Highlight

Curious about every aspect of the organization, Aza worked with as many people as possible. She focused on frequent assignments involving FESA’s social media and communications. One of Aza’s highlights was editing a video showcasing Judy Everson’s latest book.

Jasleen's Highlight

We conduct programs in Morley, Alberta, in partnership with the Stoney Nation Job Resource Centre, often facilitated by Judy Everson and Shawna Linklater. Our practicum student, Jasleen, made the hour-long trip west to co-facilitate the IWLC program with Judy. Jasleen’s dedication is greatly appreciated, and we are thankful for her assistance.

Kristin's Highlight

Kristin was a rockstar who facilitated the Mustard Seed Manchester Homework Club! One memorable activity involved creating superhero puppets out of paper bags. She took the initiative to share pictures from the program to showcase the children's creations.

Menna's Highlight

Menna touched every facet of the organization, was outgoing, and was eager to learn. One of her highlights was co-facilitating the WINS ESL English Language Club, where she helped learners improve their reading, writing, and conversational English skills.

Thank You, Practicum Students

We are immensely grateful for all the hard work and contributions our students at FESA made. Their efforts helped streamline operations, allowed us to take on new challenges, and better served vulnerable populations in Calgary. Our goal was to provide valuable learning experiences for the students, and we hope they gained as much from their time with the Further Education Society of Alberta as they gave us. Again, thank you!
